Cary Steven Katz (born January 29, 1970 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American entrepreneur and poker player .
Katz has earned nearly $ 28.5 million in poker in live tournaments . His biggest success so far was winning the Super High Roller Bowl London in September 2019.
education and profession
Katz graduated from the University of Georgia the Bachelor of Business Administration . In 1999 he founded the College Loan Corporation and served as CEO for 15 years. Under his leadership, the company was the seventh largest student loan company in the United States with a total of nearly 20 billion US dollars of loans disbursed. In October 2015, Katz founded the limited liability company Poker Central , which organizes poker tournaments and sells PokerGO, the leading live streaming portal for poker. He also appears as President of the St. Gabriel Catholic School and as Chairman of the non-profit organization Stop Child Predators . Katz is married and has a father of six. He lives in Las Vegas .
Poker career
Career
Katz learned poker from his grandmother. He has been participating in renowned live tournaments since 2004 , but almost exclusively plays high roller events, i.e. tournaments with buy-ins of at least 10,000 US dollars .
At the end of August 2005, Katz cashed for the first time at the Main Event of the World Poker Tour and finished 21st in Los Angeles for around 20,000 US dollars in prize money. In July 2009 he was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and landed in the main event in 159th place for over 40,000 US dollars. Katz has been a regular WSOP guest since 2011 and regularly manages to reach the prizes. In January 2013, he reached the final table at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures super high roller event in the Bahamas and finished the tournament in fourth place for just under $ 550,000 in prize money. At the 2013 WSOP , he narrowly missed winning a bracelet and finished second in a tournament in the Pot Limit Hold'em variant behind Belgian Davidi Kitai . In February 2014, Katz won two high roller tournaments at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, earning over $ 350,000. In late February 2018, Katz was named Poker's Biggest Influencer of the Year 2017 at the American Poker Awards in Los Angeles .
