Paul Roitzsch

Paul Roitzsch (born March 28, 1888 in Reinsberg , † December 26, 1979 in Berlin ) was a German teacher, archivist and local history researcher .

Life

Roitzsch attended the teachers' seminar in Nossen. After the electoral examination, he became a teacher at the Marienberg elementary school. He later taught at the advanced training and trade school, the secondary school and, most recently, at the special school, during which time he also worked as headmaster and director. Roitzsch also completed a degree in curative education at the University of Leipzig . Paul Roitzsch worked as a senior teacher until 1955.

In addition, he devoted himself to local research, in particular field name research. From 1923 to 1961, Roitzsch ran the newly founded local history museum in Marienberg on a voluntary basis . He also worked in archives since 1912. After passing the state examination as district and city archivist in 1947, Roitzsch worked as city archivist of Marienberg until 1968.

In 1928 Theodor Frings appointed him to work on the joint work on Saxon dialect research; from 1950 Roitzsch worked again in this area. Roitzsch was a member of the scientific committee for folklore research and collaborator in the Atlas of German Folklore . He also dealt with ore mining in the Marienberg mining area.

Paul Roitzsch wrote a 22-volume history of the city of Marienberg with 3150 pages and 552 illustrations, which remained unprinted. Twelve volumes show the origin and development of the urban community, supplemented with a ten-volume house chronicle. He is the author of the manuscript Die Marienberger Fundgruben und Stolln from 1525-1907 . On behalf of the Marienberg City Council, Roitzsch wrote the commemorative publication for the city's 400th anniversary. In addition, he presented several local history publications on the central Ore Mountains .

Honors

A street in Marienberg was named after him.
