Life

Paul Schoonbroodt, the son of a farming family, was ordained a priest in 1958 in Liège . He was initially a chaplain and religion teacher in various cities in the diocese of Liège . In 1970 he became pastor of Steffeshausen and Auel. When asked by the diocese to celebrate the new liturgy , he refused and continued to celebrate the liturgy in the Tridentine rite . He then made contact with Archbishop Lefebvre and the Society of St. Pius X. , which led to conflicts with the diocese. Schoonbroodt negotiated with Bishop Guillaume-Marie van Zuylen in a respectful manner, but his successor Albert Houssiau removed him from the parish on October 18, 1986 and excommunicated him on October 24, 1988.

On the outskirts of Steffeshausen, a district of Burg-Reuland , he built the Sacred Heart Church with his own funds and with donations, where he celebrated the liturgy in the traditional rite and was active in pastoral care until 2012. In the course of time he became a sedevacantist .

Schoonbroodt became known in German-speaking countries when he was President of the SAKA (Collection of Faithful Catholics) from September 1997 to November 1999 . He headed the SAKA two years after Alfons Eisele died and Wigand Siebel was excluded from the association because of the so-called oratorio water. Schoonbroodt died of the long-term effects of a traffic accident on April 14, 2012 near Schweinfurt .

Paul Schoonbroodt was a brother of the organist Hubert Schoonbroodt and himself an organ teacher at the Seraing Music Academy .
