Steffeshausen is a village in the Belgian Eifel with 134 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016), which belongs to the municipality of Burg-Reuland in the German-speaking Community .

geography

Steffeshausen is located in the Ourtal east of the river.

history

Steffeshausen probably got its name from the former Lords of Steffeshausen. The place is first mentioned in 1214 in the name of "Verric de Stevenshusen". Noteworthy is Steffeshausen u. a. due to the fact that the small village has two churches. The parish church of St. Petrus was already in existence in the 12th century, was rebuilt in 1565 and a sacristy was added in 1776. In 1891 the church was enlarged again. For this purpose, the west side was extended by three meters and equipped with two turrets (stairs to the organ chapel and baptistery). The church was given its current appearance in 1935. It was not until the end of the 20th century that the Herz-Jesu-Kirche was built on the initiative of Pastor Paul Schoonbroodt and consecrated in 1991.
