Malscheid is a hamlet in the Belgian Eifel with 43 inhabitants, which belongs to the municipality of Burg-Reuland in the German-speaking community .

geography

Malscheid is located between Lengeler in the north-west and the Luxembourg villages of Beiler (east) and Wemperhardt (south), which are part of the Weiswampach municipality . The Luxembourg border runs less than a kilometer south and east of the village. The European route 421 from Aachen to Luxembourg touches the village in the northwest.

history

The word “Malscheid” stands for a location, a site on which two judicial districts divide, in this case the two judicial districts Thommen and Weiswampach. The final syllable “-scheid” suggests that the place was founded at a time when the surrounding landscape was already settled and the individual districts had separated from each other. The Malscheider Chapel was first mentioned in a list of churches and chapels of the Stavelot deanery from 1604. Repair work was carried out in 1769. Malscheid belonged to the parish of Weiswampach until April 22, 1803, before the village became part of the parish Dürler.
