description
A first chapel was mentioned in 1688, which was replaced by a new church in 1776. In 1945 this chapel was so badly damaged by the effects of the war that it had to be demolished. In 1926, the current church, based on a design by the Malmedyer architect Henri Cunibert , was given its purpose by the auxiliary bishop of Liège, Louis-Joseph Kerkhof .
In Maldingen there is a lively club life, for example in the music association Echo vom Hochtumsknopf , in the church choir, in the bachelor association or with the country women. There is a kindergarten and a primary school.
Meaning of the name Maldingen
Maldingen consists of the prefix “Mal” and originated from the old German “mahal”, which in the Middle Ages became “mahel” and finally “mal” and means something like “place of assembly”. So the name Maldingen is probably to be interpreted as the “meeting place of the court”. In the dialect it becomes “Molje”.
