Paul Strecker

Paul Strecker (born August 13, 1900 in Mainz , † March 6, 1950 in Berlin ) was a German set designer , painter and writer .

Life

From 1919 to 1922, Strecker studied art at the Munich Art Academy and then moved to the Art Academy in Berlin for two years . In the summer of 1924, Strecker went on a long study trip to Rome to mainly study the ancient masters.

In the spring of 1926, Strecker was in Paris as a freelance painter and down with the occupation by the Nazis , he fled to southern France. In 1945, Strecker returned to Germany and settled in Berlin. At the Berlin State Opera he worked as stage sets and in the same year was appointed as a lecturer at the Academy of the Fine Arts Berlin (University of Fine Arts) by Karl Hofer ; Associated with the teaching assignment was the appointment as full professor.

Strecker was a member of the New Group and of the German Association of Artists . He died in Berlin at the age of 49. In 1963 he was one of the artists to whom a memorial exhibition in the Munich House of Art was dedicated; he was represented there with six oil paintings.

The music publisher Ludwig Strecker was his brother.
