Paul Swindlehurst (born May 25, 1993 in Blackrod , England ) is a British ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Belfast Giants in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2018 .

Career

Paul Swindlehurst began his career as a hockey player in the youth division of Manchester Phoenix , for which he played in the British U16 and U19 leagues. After two years in Sheffield, where he was on the ice for the junior teams of the Rapiers and the Steelhawks, with whom he became English U18 champions, he moved to Canada in 2009 and played for various teams in the Ontario East Minor Hockey League , one lower class youth league. He returned to the UK at the age of 18 and joined the Swindon Wildcats from the second-rate English Premier Ice Hockey League .

He made his debut in the Elite Ice Hockey League , the UK's top division, in the 2013/14 season with the Dundee Stars , for whom he played for two years. In his first year he was voted Young British Player of the Year . After he had only reached last place in the league with the Scots in the 2014/15 season , he moved to league rivals Nottingham Panthers . But he left this again in February 2016 and joined league rivals Manchester Storm , where he played until 2018. During the summer break of 2016, he played for the Sydney Ice Dogs in the Australian Ice Hockey League . He has been playing for the Belfast Giants since 2018 .

International

For Great Britain , Farmer took part in Junior Division I of the U18 World Championships in 2010 and 2011 and Division I of the U20 World Championships in 2011 , 2012 and 2013 , when he was voted best player on his team.

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2014 , 2015 , 2017 and 2018 , when the British made it to the top level of the World Championships for the first time since relegation in 1994. He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
