Paul W. Fairman
Paul Warren Fairman (born August 22, 1909 in Missouri ; died October 1977 in Newark , New Jersey ) was an American writer and editor. In addition to science fiction and horror literature, he also wrote crime fiction and erotic literature .
Life
Fairman began publishing short stories in the late 1940s, his first SF story, No Teeth for the Tiger , appeared in Amazing Stories in 1950 . In the following years he wrote numerous novels and short stories, some under his own name, some under various pseudonyms , including publisher pseudonyms . The name Ivar Jorgensen frequently used by him was originally a personal pseudonym that became the publishing pseudonym of Ziff Davis . The similar pseudonym Ivar Jorgenson was used by Robert Silverberg . He served various genres and also wrote several tie-ins and novel versions . Some of his stories were made into films or were the basis for television series episodes, including an episode of Twilight Zone . He wrote several SF novels for young people under the name Lester del Reys and based on its concept. In addition, Fairman is the author of a number of erotic novels and under the pseudonym FW Paul wrote several novels in the Man from STUD series , a mixture of agent and erotic novels .
From March to November 1952 he was the first editor of SF magazine If , then moved to Ziff Davis. In June 1954 he left the publisher and worked as a freelance writer for a while, only to return to Ziff Davis in December 1955, where he was editor of the magazines Amazing Stories and Fantastic from May 1956 to September 1958 . He was then editor of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine until August 1963 . In 1957 he started the magazines Dream World and Pen Pal , which he had to discontinue after three and two issues respectively
