Paul Wingo

Paul A. Wingo (born January 10, 1946 in Havre de Grace , Maryland , † September 11, 2014 in Olney (Maryland) ) was an American jazz guitarist .

Wingo, who turned to guitar at the age of eleven, attended Cambridge High School and studied at the University of Maryland from 1964 to 1968 . He then took lessons from Billy Gibson , Frank Mullen , Howard Roberts and Joe Pass ; from 1976 he attended courses at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock (New York) . For six years he played in the Army Blues Band , with which he also performed in the White House . In the course of his career he played a. a. also with Zoot Sims , Al Cohn , Pepper Adams , Phil Woods , Herb Ellis , Charlie Byrd and in the big bands of Bill Potts ( 555 Feet High 1987) and Mike Crotty . For thirty years he performed regularly at Bertha's Restaurant and Bar in Fells Point, Maryland near Baltimore. In the field of jazz he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 1982 and 2011, including a. with Carrie Smith , Ronnie Wells , Tim Eyermann as well as the Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet and the Hot Mustard Jazz Band with Buck Hill .
