Paul Yü Pin
Cardinal Paul Yü Pin ( Chinese 于 斌 , Pinyin Yú Bīn ; born April 13, 1901 in Lanxi , Empire of China , † August 16, 1978 in Rome ) was Archbishop of Nanking .
Life
Paul Yu Pin studied in Shanghai , Rome, Perugia and Kirin trays Catholic theology and philosophy . He received on 22 December 1928, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1929 to 1933 he worked as a university teacher in Rome, from 1933 to 1936 he was director and general inspector for the Catholic schools in China.
In 1936 Pope Pius XI appointed him . the titular bishop of , so to speak in Palestine and Apostolic Vicar of Nanking. He was ordained bishop on September 20, 1936 by Mario Zanin , titular archbishop of Traianopolis in Rhodope and apostolic delegate in China. Co-consecrators were Simon Zhu Kai-min (also Chu or Tsu Kai-min) SJ , Titular Bishop of Lesvi and Apostolic Vicar of Haimen , as well as Paul Léon Cornelius Montaigne CM , Titular Bishop of Sidyma and Apostolic Vicar of Beijing .
In 1946 Paul Yü Pin became the first archbishop of Nanking. In 1949, the communist rulers of China forced him to leave his archbishopric . In 1961 Paul Yü Pin became rector of Fujen University in Taiwan , and from 1962 to 1965 he took part in the Second Vatican Council . Pope Paul VI took him in 1969 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Gesù Divin Lavoratore into the College of Cardinals on.
Paul Yü Pin died on August 16, 1978 in Rome during the first conclave of that year. He was in the cathedral of Taipei buried.
