Paula Zsidi (* 1952 in Budapest , Hungary ) is a Hungarian archaeologist and museologist .

Live and act

After attending a grammar school in Budapest, Paula Zsidi studied history , archeology and museology at the Faculty of Humanities at Eötvös Loránd University from 1970 and obtained a Master of Arts degree in 1975 . From 1975 to 1989 she worked in the Archaeological Department of the History Museum in Budapest. During this time she received her doctorate in Provincial Roman Archeology at the University of 1985 .

From 1989 to 2015 she was director of the Aquincum Museum of the Historical Museum. In 1997 she received her Ph.D. from the University's Department of Archaeological Sciences. From 1991 she taught at the Archaeological Institute of the Eötvös Loránd University. In 2000 she also became deputy general director of the Historical Museum. Now she's retired.

Her main research interests are the history of the Roman Empire , Transdanubia , Aquincum and the later Budapest, areas of specialization include topography , burial customs and monument protection .

From 1995 to 2013 Paula Zsidi was the editor of the Aquincumi füzetek of the Aquincum Museum (from 2000 with Péter Vámos) , in which research results from the previous year were published.

Paula Zsidi has been a member of the archaeological research group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 1994 (1999–2008 as secretary) and a member of the archaeological jury of the National Research Foundation (1999–2002 as president). Since 1999 she has been a corresponding member of the Austrian Archaeological Institute .
