Pauline Lafont (born April 6, 1963 as Pauline Aïda Simone Medveczky in Nîmes , † probably August 11, 1988 with Gabriac (Lozère) ) was a French film actress .

Life

Pauline Lafont was the youngest daughter of the Nouvelle Vague actress Bernadette Lafont and the Hungarian sculptor Diourka Medveczky. Her siblings are Élisabeth Lafont, who is three years her senior and also an actress, and David Medveczky.

Through her mother's job, Pauline Lafont entered the film business at an early age. Under the name Pauline Medveski , she made her first appearance in front of a film camera in the film Vincent with l'âne dans un pré by Pierre Zucca next to her mother at the age of twelve .

From the age of 17, Lafont worked as a model, and photos of her appeared in Lui magazine .

The second film in which Lafont worked as an actress was the 1983 film Papy fait de la resistance by Jean-Marie Poiré . In this film shoot, the acting talent of Lafont, who was 19 years old at the time, showed. Between 1982 and 1985 she worked in the popular culture television music magazine Les Enfants du rock . In 1985 she played the character Henriette in Claude Chabrol's Inspector Lavardin criminal case, Chicken in Vinegar . After a number of supporting supporting roles, she took on more and more leading roles in the course of the 1980s. In 1987 she played alongside Jane Birkin in Jean-Luc Godard's film Soigne ta droite (Eng. Protect your rights) the role of the golfer.

In her roles Lafont embodied the style of the rebellious youthful image of women of the 50s, which became modern as a retro version in the 80s as part of the rockabilly revival . The media stylized her as pin-up , vamp , sensual seductress or femme fatale .

Lafont's career ended abruptly with her untimely death.

death

Pauline Lafont and her brother had spent their holidays in the summer of 1988 in their mother's country house near the municipality of Saint-André-de-Valborgne in the Cevennes (southern France). At dawn on August 11th, she went for a walk. She is said to have shouted "I need fresh air" as the last words to her brother. After she did not return after several hours, her brother alerted the police. The search was unsuccessful for a long time. Bernadette Lafont asked the then President François Mitterrand for support. On his behalf, a company of the Foreign Legion was sent to the village to actively support the emergency services in their search.

Their mysterious disappearance gave rise to much speculation. Some newspapers speculated that the actress had dropped out and lived in a sect. In early September 1988, the investigation into her was officially stopped.

It was only more than three months after her disappearance that the 65-year-old mountain farmer Roger Philipp accidentally discovered the remains under bushes while chopping wood. Lafont had fallen into a crevice hidden by bushes and, according to the autopsy, apparently died on impact from a height of ten meters. According to other sources, she lived for some time and starved helplessly. Her identification was based on her clothing and a small diamond ring on her left ring finger, which her mother recognized beyond any doubt. The news caused consternation in France and sparked rumors that Pauline Lafont might have been murdered.
