Pacific typhoon season 1964

The Pacific typhoon season has neither an end nor a beginning as a tropical cyclone can form in this area year round. There is no official definition of typhoon season. The main season runs from July to November, with peaks in late August and early September. Very few tropical cyclones form in February and the first half of May. The tropical cyclones that form between 100 ° W and 180 ° W and north of the equator count as typhoon . The western basin of the North Pacific is the most active, about a third of the world's tropical cyclones occur here. According to the City University of Hong Kong , an average of 27 tropical cyclones form, 17 of which intensify into a typhoon. In the People's Republic of China in particular , many tropical storms land on land, but the Philippines are also severely affected with 6 to 7 storms annually.

In order to be able to group the individual events of the typhoon season, which in fact lasts permanently, they are assigned to the calendar year in which the associated low pressure system was formed.
