Peeter Lilje

Peeter Lilje (born October 13, 1950 in Valga , Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic , Soviet Union ; † October 28, 1993 in Oulu , Finland ) was an Estonian conductor .

Life and music

From 1964 to 1968 Peeter Lilje attended the music school in Tartu in what was then the Estonian Soviet Republic. In 1974 he completed his studies with Arvo Ratassepp at the Tallinn State Conservatory in the field of choral conducting . At the same time he studied orchestral conducting with Roman Matsov and played in various jazz formations. In 1980 Lilje also completed the subject of opera and symphony orchestral conducting at the Leningrad Conservatory with Arvīds and Mariss Jansons .

From 1972 to 1975 Lilje was choirmaster and assistant to conductor Neeme Järvi at the Estonia Concert and Opera House in the Estonian capital Tallinn . From 1975 to 1990 he was a conductor at the "Estonia".

From 1980 to 1990 Lilje was chief conductor of the Estonian State Symphony Orchestra (ERSO). From 1990 until his untimely death in 1993 Lilje was chief conductor of the symphony orchestra in the Finnish city of Oulu, Oulu Sinfonia .
