Gettysburg College is a private liberal arts - College in Gettysburg in southern Pennsylvania . The college has 2,600 students from 35 countries and 180 employees. The school is editor of the literary magazine The Gettysburg Review . The school's sports teams are nicknamed Bullets .

Historical

The college was founded in 1832 as a sister institution to the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg . Both foundations go back to Samuel Simon Schmucker and Thaddeus Stevens , "the great common man" , a radical Republican and lawyer . The school was originally called Pennsylvania College .

The college is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America .
