Pentapeptides
A pentapeptide is a peptide from the group of oligopeptides . It is made up of five amino acids that are linked to one another via peptide bonds .
construction
A distinction is made between linear pentapeptides (contain four peptide bonds ) and cyclic pentapeptides . In the case of cyclic pentapeptides, the cyclization is based on a fifth peptide bond or another intramolecular covalent bond .
Examples
- Pentagastrin is used clinically for the diagnosis of gastric secretion.
- Enterostatin from the intestine is involved in the feeling of satiety.
- Opiorphin is an endorphin .
- Enkephalins are another class of endogenous opioids in addition to endorphins and dynorphins .
- Cilengitide is a blood vessel growth inhibitor that is used to treat tumors .
