Josep "Pepe" Oriola Vila (born July 9, 1994 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish automobile racing driver . He competed in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) from 2011 to 2014 . In 2015 he drove in the TCR International Series .

Career

Oriola began his motorsport career in karting in 2004 . At the age of 15, he switched to touring car racing at the end of 2009 . He competed in the season finale of the Spanish SEAT León Supercopa and was on the podium straight away. In 2010 he stayed in the Spanish SEAT León Supercopa and finished the season in fourth place overall. He also took part in the SEAT León Eurocup for Monlau-Competicion . In the race at Brands Hatch , in which his team-mate Francisco Carvalho survived a serious accident unharmed, he won his first race in this championship. At the season finale, he won two more races and finally came fourth in the overall standings.

In 2011 Oriola switched to the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and competed for Sunred Engineering in a SEAT León . At 16 years, 8 months and 11 days old, he became the youngest WTCC pilot to date on his debut. With two eighth places as the best results, he finished the season in 18th place overall. He also finished second in the European Touring Car Cup . In 2012 Oriola stayed in the WTCC and started for the Tuenti Racing Team . Already in his first race he achieved his best result to date with a sixth place. Later in the season he achieved his first podium finishes with second places in Portimão and Suzuka . In the world championship he improved to eighth place. In 2013 Oriola started again for Tuenti. At the fourth race of the season in Marrakech , he achieved his first victory. At the end of the season he was ninth in the drivers' championship with three further podium finishes. In the World Touring Car Championship in 2014 Oriola was no fixed cockpit. At Campos Racing he was given a cockpit for the last event in Macau in a TC1 car as an injury replacement for Dušan Borković . Originally he was supposed to start this race for Campos in a TC2 vehicle. Oriola had an accident in qualifying. While he was uninjured, his vehicle was so badly damaged that he could no longer participate in the race.

In 2015 Oriola switched to the Craft-Bamboo LUKOIL team in the TCR International Series . At the first event in Sepang , he finished both races in second place. He won a race in Valencia . In total, he achieved two wins and another ten podium finishes. With 312 to 342 points, he was defeated by Stefano Comini at the end of the season and finished second overall.
