The Peppermint Rainbow (until 1968 New York Times ) was an American band from Baltimore that was active in the late 1960s and belongs to the genres Psychedelic Rock and Bubblegum . Her best-known work is the title "Will You Be Staying After Sunday".

Band history

The band was formed in 1967 in Baltimore , Maryland , under the name New York Times . It was already in the line-up when it was founded, and it remained in place until it was dissolved three years later.

The New York Times played after its establishment concerts in the northeastern United States. They were discovered by Cass Elliot and signed by Decca Records after Elliott saw the band play a medley of songs from The Mamas and the Papas .

After the signing, the band name was changed to The Peppermint Rainbow ( English for The Peppermint Rainbow ). The group was produced on Decca by Paul Leka, who had previously written the hit "Green Tambourine" for The Lemon Pipers . Peppermint Rainbows first single "Walking in Different Circles / Pink Lemonade" did not hit the charts.

The second single "Will You Be Staying After Sunday / If We Can Make It To Monday", however, the first song written by Leka and Al Kasha , reached number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969 . After this success, Peppermint Rainbow went on tour with Sly & The Family Stone , The Fifth Dimension , Gary Puckett & the Union Gap and Tiny Tim . Their third single "Don't Wake Me Up In The Morning, Michael" was released in 1969 and placed 54th on the charts. The LP "Will You Be Staying After Sunday", which was released in the same year after the previous successes, narrowly missed the Top 100 of the album charts with position 106.

The band broke up in 1970 after their album became a commercial failure, the band members came back burned out from the tour and married singer Bonnie Lamdin.
