Per Gustafsson (born June 4, 1970 in Oskarshamn ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played during his active career mainly for the HV71 in the Swedish Elitserien .

Career

Gustafsson began his career with HV71 , for which he initially played until 1996. After the Florida Panthers had pulled him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 in the eleventh round in a total of 261st place, he moved to the Panthers in the 1996/97 season in the National Hockey League . There, the left-handed shooter completed 58 games and immediately became the second best defender in terms of scorer points. After the season, the Swede completed games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their farm team , the St. John's Maple Leafs . In addition, he came to work with the Ottawa Senators .

In 1998 Gustafsson returned to his hometown club HV71, who played for until the end of the 2009/10 season. With 20 seasons in the HV71 jersey, he is the club's record holder for most games. In addition, the assistant captain scored a goal after six seconds in a game against Luleå HF in 1991 , which is considered to be the fastest shot of the Elitserien .

International

For the Swedish national ice hockey team Gustafsson was on the ice at the 1996 World Cup and reached sixth place with his team. His greatest international success came when he won the silver medal at the 2003 World Cup .
