history

Percy was founded in 1863 on land provided by John T. Stort by the Cairo and St. Louis Railroad and is believed to be named after Percy Kampen, the son of a superintendent of the Kampenville Mine. According to other sources, Percy was the name of the machinist on the first train that passed through town. A post office was established on February 19, 1873, and Percy was incorporated as a Village in 1887.
