The Perlenbach is the left, longer source brook of the Schwesnitz in Upper Franconia .

It is produced in Schoenwald - Reichenbach from the two at the Czech border springing streams Lohbach / Hraniční brook (source when breakpoint Štítary 50 ° 13 '35 "  N , 12 ° 9' 34"  O , about 630  m above sea level. And Lauterbach) (Source near the hamlet of Prexhäuser (zu Selb ) 50 ° 12 ′ 57 ″  N , 12 ° 9 ′ 40 ″  E , approx. 635  m above sea level ), as well as the Stockbach, whose course begins on the eastern outskirts of Schönwald ( 50 ° 11 ′ 55 ″  N , 12 ° 5 ′ 55 ″  E , approx. 600  m above sea level ). The Perlenbachtal runs in a north-westerly direction to Rehau , where Perlenbach and Höllbach unite to form Schwesnitz. Other smaller tributaries are the Hussitenbächlein , the Mähringsbach , the Bocksbach and the Potrasbach .

In 1412 the brook was referred to as "Gryna" and later as "Grünau". It got its name from the originally rich occurrence of the river pearl mussel . There is a legend about a pearl discovery about the name change. Between 1733 and 1952 officially appointed “pearl inspectors” based in the “ pearl house ” fished mussels and looked for pearls. This was initially a margravial and later a royal Bavarian privilege. Today the pearl mussel is almost extinct there too.
