history

In the Bronze Age, Velopula was on the southern trade route from the Argolic Gulf to the Cyclades . Remains of a settlement and copper processing, which can be dated to phase FH II (approx. 2300 BC) of the Early Helladic , have been proven. The copper probably came from the island of Falkonera.

In 1884 a ten meter high lighthouse was built on the island.
