Vegetative characteristics

The Persian fritillaria is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 60 to 100 (rarely from 20 or 150) centimeters. It forms onions as persistence organs. The 9 to 25 leaves are lanceolate with a pointed upper end and a length of up to 15 centimeters and a width of about 3 centimeters.

Generative characteristics

The flowering time is in April, rarely it lasts until May. There are 7 to 20, rarely up to 42 flowers in one inflorescence .

The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six greenish, grayish-yellowish to dark purple-brown and often slightly yellow tepals are 15 to 20 millimeters long and 6 to 7 millimeters wide and are not spread out at the tip. The nectar gland measures 2 to 1.5 millimeters and is roughly triangular in shape.

The capsule fruit has narrow wings.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The Persian fritillary occurs in southern Turkey , Syria , Lebanon , Jordan , northern Iraq, and western and southern Iran . It thrives at altitudes of 700 to 2500 meters on rocky slopes, in bushes and on the edges of fields.
