Petar Fartunow ( Bulgarian Петър Фъртунов ; born June 3, 1989 in Samokow ) is a former Bulgarian ski jumper .

Career

Fartunow made his international debut in January 2004 in Bischofshofen as part of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . However, he did not succeed in jumping into the points either there, in Brotterode or Braunlage . Also in the summer of 2004 he only ended up behind in all jumping competitions. In January 2005 he won a point for the first time as 30th in Lauscha and was able to place himself for the first time in the overall ranking of the 2004/05 season. However, he could not build on this success in the following.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2006 in Kranj Fartunow reached the 36th place in individual jumping. At the following Winter Olympics in 2006 Fartunow started at the age of only 16 as one of the youngest jumpers of the games. He was eliminated from the normal hill in qualification as 49th. Even from the large hill, he did not make it into the competition and only reached rank 52.

After remaining without points in the Continental Cup until the summer, he switched to the FIS Cup in October 2006 . There Fartunow achieved good points in Einsiedeln and in February 2007 in Zakopane . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2007 in Tarvisio , Fartunow reached 36th place in individual jumping.

From July 2007 Fartunow started again in the Continental Cup. He was able to improve his performance slightly. However, points were still missing. He therefore started the 2007/08 season in the FIS Cup. He achieved two top 10 placings in Harrachov , where he only just missed the podium in fourth in the first competition. Back in the Continental Cup , he was able to further improve his jumping performance. In January 2008 he was in the second round for the first time in Sapporo and also achieved his overall best individual performance in this series in his entire career as 24th in the first competition. After he also won Continental Cup points in the second competition, he finally finished the season in March with a total of 10 points as 126th overall.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2008 in Zakopane, Fartunow jumped to 30th place in individual jumping. In team jumping he reached 13th place with the team. The following months passed for Fartunow again with failures in the Continental Cup. Only in the FIS Cup did he get two good placements among the top ten at the summer jumping in Oberwiesenthal .

In February 2009 at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2009 in Štrbské Pleso Fartunow reached only a disappointing 67th place in the individual jumping. In March 2009 he contested the qualification for ski flying in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Planica , but failed clearly in 48th place.

As a result, Fartunow was alternately active in the Continental and FIS Cup. However, he did not achieve success, so that after his last jumping in December 2009 he gave up his place in the B national team and ended his active ski jumping career at the end of the 2009/10 season.
