Peter-Jürgen Paschold

Peter-Jürgen Paschold (* 1946 in Rudolstadt ; † November 26, 2013 ) was a German crop scientist .

Life

After completing his training as an agricultural technician , Paschold studied agricultural science at the University of Jena , which he graduated with a degree in agriculture. His diploma thesis was the evaluation of experiments using electronic data processing . He continued his path with a special degree in "IT and mathematics in agriculture" at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1971 he switched to the Institute for Vegetable Production at the Leibniz Institute for Vegetable and Ornamental Plant Production in Großbeeren , where he stayed until 1990. During this time he received his doctorate A for Dr. agr., and in 1986 the doctorate to Dr. sc. agr. ( PhD B ), Doctor of Science, as a so-called PhD B comparable to the habilitation in West Germany.

In 1990 and 1991, Peter-Jürgen Paschold was promoted to area director at the Institute for Vegetable Production in Großbeeren.

In 1991 Paschold accepted a call to the Geisenheim Research Institute as head of the vegetable growing department at the Horticultural Institute. He also worked as a lecturer at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences, Department of Horticulture and Land Care Geisenheim, today RheinMain University . From 1993 to 1995 he also served as dean in the horticulture and landscape maintenance department at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences. Also in 1993 he completed his habilitation at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , where he also gave lectures. From 2002 he was appointed deputy head of the Horticultural Institute. During the 19 years in the service of the research institute, he became the world's most famous scientist of asparagus research . The results of his work have significantly promoted the development of an agricultural science based on natural science. He focused his research on the cultivation of asparagus as well as the water balance and the irrigation of vegetables in the field and in the greenhouse . It was adopted in April 2010.

Paschold has been chairman of the asparagus working group of the federal vegetable growing group in the Central Horticultural Association since 2003 , which is supposed to ensure a transnational transfer of knowledge within Germany. As part of a 2010 project, he initiated the first investigations with the currently only non-selective harvester "Kirpy" available on the market, from Ai-solution, under practical conditions in the Ingelheim am Rhein area.
