Peter Klaus Steiner (born June 18, 1937 in Baden near Vienna ) is an Austrian geologist and writer .

life and work

After moving several times during the turmoil of the war and post-war years, he began an apprenticeship as a printer in 1951. In 1958 he passed the external diploma . He then completed a degree in geology and palaeontology in Vienna . He financed his early trips with a focus on the Middle East and his studies through night work as a croupier . In 1966 he received his doctorate. phil. 1967 marked the beginning of six years of research on behalf of the UN , accompanied by women and children, in the largely uninhabited rainforest of Ivory Coast . In 1973 he moved to Colombia , where he headed a large-scale geochemical exploration in the south of the country. From 1976 to 1978 he was a consultant for mining in Malaysia , Indonesia , Peru and Pakistan . In 1978 he moved to Bolivia as a UN expert. From 1980 he worked as a freelance consultant for mining and ore prospection worldwide.

From the mid-1980s he made literary records. Steiner has been a freelance writer since 1994. In 1997 he received the Literature Prize of the Province of Lower Austria and in 1998 the Literature Prize of the City of Baden.

He lives in Baden near Vienna.
