In the summer of 2015 he married Grit Schnibbe, b. Borner. He spent the first 17 years of his life in Bremerhaven and after the divorce of his parents moved with his mother and stepfather to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . After graduating from high school, he studied art and German at the University of Koblenz in Landau in the Palatinate from 1971 to 1972 . He passed his exams in 1976 at the University of Bremen, then completed his legal clerkship at the Kippenberg-Gymnasium in Bremen and from 1980 taught art and German at the cooperative comprehensive school Weyhe-Leeste. Schnibbe's great-great-great-uncle on his mother's side was the landscape painter and graphic artist Hermann Schnee . A great-great-uncle on my father's side was the writer Hermann Allmers . Schnibbe is the nephew of the poet Wilhelm Schnibbe.

Peter Barthold Schnibbe has been musically active since his youth. From 1976 to 1979 he initiated the Low German singing folk rock band "Hartleed" and was part of it as a drummer, with whom he released several albums and was present on television and radio. Since 1999 he has been a drummer and singer in the formation "Uncle Snake". He is also active in literature.

The artist is a member of the Föhrde Club in Kiel and the Kunstverein - Kunststiftung Lilienthal. He is actively involved in the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People and in the cultural work in Bremerhaven in the Friends of the "Old Citizens".

Work and action

As a teenager he began to work with gouache and oil paint, later turning to acrylic paint. In his early works it was mainly American landscapes that he depicted. As a result, he increasingly approached photorealism. At the end of the 1990s, the contours of what was depicted became noticeably softer, without losing any of their core accuracy. The color spectrum expanded, the choice of motifs became more complex. Schnibbe's works are often compared with those of Edward Hopper . Elements of Worpsweder and the Nordic painting of Denmark can also be found in his works. Edvard Munch , Peder Severin Krøyer , Caspar David Friedrich and Georgia O'Keeffe were among his pioneers.

Schnibbe has a close friendship with the painter Otto Quirin , which has also shown itself in the creation of joint works in recent years.
