Peter Baumeister (born February 6, 1940 in Dortmund ) is a German jazz drummer and banker.

Life

Baumeister, who lived in Frankfurt am Main from 1954 , studied percussion with Wilhelm Balzer from the Frankfurt Opera and percussion with Rudi Sehring . In 1959 he played in a trio with Heinz Sauer at the festival in Düsseldorf, where he was honored as the best soloist.

In 1960 he joined Günter Kronberg's quintet . From 1961 he played in various groups of Joki Freund , from 1962 he was also a member of Waldi Heidepriem's Modern Jazz Group Freiburg and in the group of Barney Wilen . He performed with George Gruntz and Helen Merrill as well as with Chet Baker , but also with Albert Mangelsdorff and especially with his friend Volker Kriegel . He became known to a larger audience for his play in the Dave Pike Set . Baumeister also played with Franco Ambrosetti and Klaus Doldinger .

After receiving his doctorate in economics, he first became a personal advisor to the President of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University . He then joined his father's credit bank and dedicated himself to its business as a manager. From this point on he hardly appeared in the German jazz scene, but from 1976 he organized the regular Sunday jazz concerts in the inner courtyard of the Historical Museum in Frankfurt from 1976 onwards . Occasionally he still performed in the Jazzkeller Frankfurt , especially to play hard bop with Fritz Hartschuh . On October 3rd, 2007 there was a musical reunion with Dave Pike in Frankfurt.

Baumeister is an excellent drummer, equally competent in post bop (e.g. with Joki Freund) and polymetric fusion music (e.g. in the Dave Pike set).
