Peter Beer

Peter Beer (born February 11, 1966 in Kelheim an der Donau ) is a German Catholic priest and theologian. From 2009 to 2019 he was Vicar General in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

Life

After graduating from the Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium in Regensburg , Beer studied Catholic theology at the universities of Regensburg and Munich from 1985 to 1992 . From 1993 to 1998 he also studied education at the University of Munich . From 1993 to 1996 he was a religion teacher at a primary school in Munich. From 1996 to 2001 he was a consultant for child pastoral care at the youth pastoral institute in Benediktbeuern .

In 1995 Beer was awarded the thesis “Contextual Theology. Thoughts on their systematic foundation "at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München for Dr. theol. and in 1998 with the dissertation "Educational Processes and Knowledge Boundaries: Contributions from Dialectical-Humanities Pedagogy to an Educational Dealing with Knowledge Boundaries" in the subject of pedagogy also at the Munich LMU for Dr. phil. PhD.

In 2002 he received from Cardinal Friedrich Wetter in Freising Cathedral , the ordination . From 2002 to 2004 he was chaplain in St. Margaret in Munich-Sendling . At the same time, in 2002 he also became an honorary professor for religious education at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Salesians Don Bosco Benediktbeuern . From 2004 to 2006 he was a specialist in ecclesiastical elementary education in the Catholic Office in Bavaria, and from November 1, 2006 to September 30, 2009 he was its director. On December 20, 2008 he received from Pope Benedict XVI. the honorary title of Papal Honorary Prelate .

On April 19, 2009, Reinhard Cardinal Marx was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising . He took office on January 1, 2010. On October 1, 2009, Beer was appointed Cathedral Chapter of the Metropolitan Chapter of Munich.

Peter Beer is committed to numerous social projects in the Holy Land . He is a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 2009 he was accepted by Cardinal Grand Master John Patrick Cardinal Foley into the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and invested in the German Lieutenancy of the Papal Order of Knights in Mannheim by Archbishop Reinhard Marx , Grand Prior of the Order in Germany.

At the end of 2019, he said goodbye to the office of Vicar General to take on a professorship at the Pontifical Gregorian University . He will retain his chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt .

Peter Beer was chairman of the supervisory board of the Weltbild publishing group in Augsburg.
