Peter Bernhard Anker (born May 5, 1825 at Gut Frogner near Christiania , Norway ; † February 13, 1856 in Düsseldorf ) was a Norwegian genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Anker, scion of the Norwegian aristocratic family Anker (Ancher), great-nephew of Bernt Anker and Peder Anker , son of the merchant Morten Anker (1780-1838) and his wife Anette Carine, née Thorsen (1782-1830), was destined for a military career. However, he left the war school in Christiania and first went to Copenhagen . Then he moved to Düsseldorf , where he attended the 2nd class under Karl Ferdinand Sohn at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in 1847 . In Düsseldorf, he also took private lessons from his compatriot Adolph Tidemand . From 1850 to 1855 he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . When Anker died of tuberculosis in Düsseldorf in 1856 at the age of 30 , his death was particularly regretted because great hopes had been placed in him - as a student of Tidemand and because of his talent for teaching.
