Peter Breithut (born June 12, 1869 in Krems , † June 3, 1930 in Mannheim ) was an Austrian painter , sculptor , graphic artist and medalist .

Life

Peter Breithut was mainly active as a medalist until around 1913/14, after which he worked in painting and graphics. He first learned the trade of goldsmith. In 1887/88 he took part in the special course for chasing art at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with S. Schwarz. In 1897/98 he completed a degree in sculpture at the Vienna Academy under Edmund von Hellmer . After studying in France in 1912 and 1913, Breithut worked primarily as a painter and graphic artist. From 1902 to 1921 he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus . Until 1914 he exhibited in the Vienna Secession . From 1920 to 1930 he was a member of the Hagenbunde , where a commemorative exhibition (watercolors and portrait drawings) took place in 1930. He was married to the painter Eugenie Breithut-Munk . Breithut made medallions for Archduke Franz Salvator , Caspar von Zumbusch , Babette Devrient , Michael Thonet , Karoline Bachmayr and Ernst Wilhelm von Brücke .
