Peter Engel (born November 10, 1940 in Eutin ) is a German writer .

Peter Engel studied at the universities in Hamburg and Heidelberg German and English language and literature ; he completed this course in 1969 with the state examination. He then worked for a long time as a culture editor; In addition, he was involved in the founding of the working group for alternative publishers and authors and the IG literary magazines . Engel now lives as a freelance writer in Hamburg .

Peter Engel is the author of short stories , essays and poems and since 2014, together with Günther Emig, has been the editor of Hammer + Veilchen: Flugschriften für neue Kurzprsa , a quarterly literary magazine devoted exclusively to the publication of short prose . In 2020 the volume The underground years , edited with Günther Emig, was published , which gives the protagonists of the alternative literary magazines of the 70s - authors, everyday poets and magazine founders - their say.
