Peter Feil

Peter Feil (born July 20, 1962 in Ehrang ; † December 2, 2018 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German jazz musician ( trombone , arrangement ).

Live and act

Feil received piano lessons from the age of five. At the age of ten he switched to the trombone, which he played in the local music association and in the evangelical trombone choir. At the age of 16 he founded his own band in Trier . From 1982 to 1988 he studied trombone and composition at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Jiggs Whigham and Axel Jungbluth . During his studies from 1984 to 1985 he was a member of the Franco-German Jazz Ensemble , which was directed by Albert Mangelsdorff and Jean-François Jenny-Clark .

He also played in the Cologne Trombone Summit with Manfred Schoof , Gunter Hampel , Alexander von Schlippenbach , Shirley Bassey , Bobby Shew / Groovin 'High Big Band, Chris Walden Orchestra and in the WDR Big Band Cologne ( Carambolage 1992). Since 1996 he has been a member of the hr big band , with which he has participated in numerous projects and CDs and has also arranged (The American Songs of Kurt Weill, Mumbai Project). Most recently in 2017 he worked on the album Saluting Sgt. Pepper (with Django Bates and the hr Big Band). In addition, he devoted himself to the songs of Jimi Hendrix in his Peter Feil Experience . He also worked as a lecturer at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . He can also be heard on albums by Chris Walden and the Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion.

Feil died at the age of 56 after a serious illness.
