Peter Vilhelm Franzén (born August 14, 1971 in Keminmaa , Finland ) is a Finnish actor and writer .

Life

Peter Franzén made his screen debut as a film actor in 1993 in the role of Iiro in the adventure film Matokuningas . Since then Franzén has been able to establish himself as an actor in over 70 film and television productions. He played in films such as Rölli and the Elves , Klaras Fall and Priest of Evil . Since he moved his residence to Los Angeles , he also appeared in individual roles in the television series VIP - The Bodyguards , CSI: Miami and most recently in 2009 as Viking chief Hrolf in True Blood . Until 2014 he was nominated eight times for the Finnish Jussi Film Award, four times each for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. He was able to receive the award three times. With his first nomination, he received a Jussi for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Kottarainen in Markku Pölönen's drama Kuningasjätkä . A second award for Best Supporting Actor followed in 2010 for his portrayal in Aleksi Mäkelä's crime film Rööperi , in which he played the Finnish criminal Krister Teräsvuori . He was named Best Actor in 2005 for his portrayal of Mertsi Arhippa Vepsäläinen in Markku Pölönen's drama Koirankynnen leikkaaja , the film adaptation of the novel by Veikko Huovinen .

Franzén made his debut as a writer in 2010 with Tumman veden päällä , an autobiographically inspired story about the little boy Pete who is terrorized by his stepfather. The book was well received by the public and critics, so that he adapted it for the cinema himself with a budget of 1.5 million. In his directorial debut he played the role of Pete's father, Kake, alongside Samuli Edelmann , Ismo Kallio and Marja Packalén . The film premiered in Finnish cinemas on September 6, 2013 and was later nominated for the Finnish Jussi Film Award for Best Film .

Franzén lived in Los Angeles from 1999 to 2013 with his wife, actress Irina Björklund . The couple, who have had a son since 2007, have lived in France since autumn .

Franzén Harald has been playing "Fairhair" in the TV series Vikings since 2016 .
