Peter Fritz (journalist)

Hans Peter Fritz ( Peter Fritz ; born June 19, 1961 in Villach , Carinthia) is an Austrian television journalist for ORF .

life and career

Peter Fritz attended the Second Federal High School in Klagenfurt and graduated from high school in 1979. From autumn 1980 he studied German and history at the University of Vienna . He wrote his dissertation with Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler . During his studies he worked in the Klagenfurt editorial team of the daily newspaper " Kleine Zeitung ", and from 1982 also in the regional studio Carinthia of the ORF. From 1985 to 1986 he was a freelancer (news editor) at Radio Austria International , the (now practically completely discontinued) foreign service of the ORF.

At first, beginning in 1987, he was an editor in the domestic editorial team of the current service of ORF. In 1990 he moved to the foreign editorial team. Prior to that, he was on a foreign assignment as a special correspondent for the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989. At the beginning of 1991, during the Gulf War , Peter Fritz was deployed as an ORF special correspondent in Israel.

From 1991 to 1992 he was a foreign correspondent in the ORF office in Bonn , then for a year at the ORF in Washington, DC, then editor and head of Zeitzeitung in Bild 1 in Vienna. In January 1998 he went back to Washington, in August 2001 he took over the management of the ORF Washington office. The most important topics during this time were the Lewinsky affair over President Bill Clinton , the controversial US presidential election in 2000 and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 .

In August 2003 Peter Fritz returned to Vienna and took on the role of Head of Foreign Affairs in the “Zeit im Bild” editorial team at ORF.

Since June 2007 Peter Fritz has been working again as a radio and television correspondent. Until the end of February 2015 he was the head of the ORF office in Berlin . Since March 2015 he has been the ORF office manager in Brussels .

Peter Fritz is married to the radio journalist Bea Sommersguter and has two children.
