Peter Hagenah (born March 1, 1928 in Hamburg-Altenwerder ; † June 17, 2015 ) was a German marine painter . The autodidact mainly painted his works in oil on canvas.

life and work

Peter Hagenah, son of a captain , spent his youth in Hamburg-Altenwerder . In addition, the birthplace of Peter Hagenah is also the place where the German marine painter Johannes Holst (1880–1965) was born.

Since the founding of the art exhibition "Art Maritim", part of the - Hanseboot - he was present every year from 1986 to 1998 with his pictures next to the collection of Peter Tamm from the Institute for Shipping and Marine History . His works were mentioned in the 1995 annual editions “Shipping and Art” by the shipping publisher Hansa.

From 1990 to 1993 Fr. Hagenah was the spokesman for the "Forum of German Marine Painters".

From February 5 to March 18, 1994, he and 17 artists showed works on maritime painting at Rickmer Rickmers .

In 1995 he was mentioned by name and with a picture of his own at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in the book "Marine Painting: Images of Sail, Sea and Shore" by the author James Taylor, published on June 30, 1995.

On the occasion of his 70th birthday he was honored by the Kulturkreis Finkenwerder eV with its own exhibition regarding his work to date. The painter and sculptor Axel Groehl gave an introduction in his laudatory speech .

In 2007 he donated the picture “Landrath Küster” to the association “Friends of the deep-sea fishing- cutter Landrath Küster ” with the stipulation that it be auctioned at the highest bidder and that the proceeds be used to maintain the cutter. Since then the painting has been at the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg , where the cutter was built at the beginning of the 20th century. He died on June 17, 2015 after a brief but serious illness.
