Peter Henkel
Peter Henkel (* 1942 in Dortmund ) is a German journalist and non-fiction author . He became known as the state correspondent for the Frankfurter Rundschau in Baden-Württemberg and later as Winfried Kretschmann's biographer and through several non-fiction books critical of religion.
Life
Henkel grew up in the Ruhr area and later studied German and philosophy at the University of Bonn . Professionally, he then realized himself as a journalist with a focus on politics without an academic degree . For almost three decades he was a correspondent for the Frankfurter Rundschau for the state of Baden-Württemberg . After reaching retirement age, he lives as a freelance non-fiction author in Stuttgart and Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut .
In 2009, the religious critic Henkel published his first book Oh, Heaven is Empty: All Good Reasons Against God and Faith in Frieling-Verlag. The literary critic Arno Widmann saw it as "a liberating and cheerful Advent reading". Two years later, the author surprised the election of Winfried Kretschmann as Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg with his biography, which Henkel had written together with his wife, the writer Brigitte Johanna Henkel-Waidhofer . In 2012, he published his printed correspondence with Norbert Blüm , Streit über Gott, in the renowned Catholic Herder publishing house . In the same year, shortly before the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Tectum Verlag in Marburg published Henkel's analysis of the psychology of religion , the refusals and evasive maneuvers of the faithful in the dialogue about the core of belief in God. In June 2017, his book, Enlightening the Martin Luther myth, Ending with Luther was published: From the wrong ways of a radical , in which Henkel countered the image of Luther, which was more glorifying in the anniversary year, with a critical analysis of the reformer by highlighting his darker sides, such as intolerance, authoritarianism, and hating the Jews and superstitious beliefs. Peter Henkel is a member of the Humanist Association of Germany .
