Peter Johann Willatzen (also Johann Peter Willatzen ; born September 12, 1824 in Silberstedt ; † December 14, 1898 in Bremen ) was a German teacher , translator and poet .

Life

Willatzen was the son of a teacher in Silberstedt. He first attended the school in his hometown and then after his father was transferred to Hadersleben . Then he graduated from high school there . Since his parents could not afford to pay for studies, he attended from 1842 to 1845, the seminar of Tonder to elementary school teachers to be. This was initially followed by a job as an assistant teacher in Altona . During this time he began to publish his first poems in the Hamburger Observer . In 1849 he returned to Hadersleben as his father's representative, but was dismissed with the other German teachers in May 1850.

Willatzen briefly taught, supported by the German-minded population, as a private teacher in Hadersleben. But he was threatened with jail time if he continued to teach. Therefore he fled to Rendsburg in 1850 . There he joined the army and became field sexton . After the army was disbanded, he went to the secondary school for girls in Bremen in April 1851 . He changed schools several times and mainly taught history. In 1865 he was elected by the Bremen Senate as a teacher at the Bremen secondary school . He is said to have been valued for his teaching skills.
