Peter Joseph Connors (born March 6, 1937 in Mordialloc , Victoria , Australia ) is Bishop Emeritus of Ballarat .

Life

Peter Joseph Connors was born the eldest son of Walter and Isa Connors and attended Saint Mary's School in Lancefield and Assumption College in Kilmore . After graduating from high school, he studied Catholic theology and philosophy at Corpus Christi College in Werribee and Glen Waverley .

On 23 July 1961 he received by the Archbishop of Melbourne , Justin Daniel Simonds , the ordination . He then worked as a chaplain in pastoral care in several places until 1968 , a. a. in Frankston , Kyneton and East St Kilda .

From 1968, he graduated in Rome postgraduate studies in canon law and in 1972 at the Pontifical Urban University for Dr. iur. can. PhD . In 1972 he was appointed Secretary of the Ecclesiastical Marriage Tribunal for Victoria and Tasmania . In 1974 he became Episcopal Secretary to Archbishop Thomas Francis Little and in 1976 Vicar General for the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Pope John Paul II named him titular bishop of Temuniana and auxiliary bishop in Melbourne on March 30, 1987 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Melbourne, Thomas Francis Little, on May 21 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Ronald Austin Mulkearns , Bishop of Ballarat, and Joseph Peter O'Connell , Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne. He was named Bishop of Ballarat on May 30, 1997, and was installed in office on July 23 of the same year.

Pope Benedict XVI On August 1, 2012, he accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.
