Peter Larsson (born April 9, 1968 in Södertälje ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who was active during his career for the Augsburg Panthers and the Munich Barons from the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Larsson began his career in 1984 in his hometown with the Swedish first division club Södertälje SK . After he was often used in their junior team at the beginning and was only used sporadically in the professional team, he was part of the Swedish team from the 1987/88 season. In the following years, the offensive player was one of the attackers with the highest points within the team. During the 1987/88 season he scored 30 scorer points in 36 games. He could then increase steadily this point yield and thus attracted the interest of other Swedish clubs and some NHL - Scouts in coming. During the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 , it was those responsible for the New Jersey Devils who selected him in the 12th round at a total of 236th position. Larsson did not move to the NHL, but signed a contract with Brynäs IF in the summer of 1990 . With his new club he was then able to win the Swedish championship in the 1992/93 season . The left shooter completed 44 league games this season and scored 40 points. So he played a big part in the success of his team.
For the 1996/97 season , the Swede JYP Jyväskylä from the highest Finnish league, the SM-liiga , joined. There he completed a successful season with 52 points in 54 games and moved the following year to league rivals Tampereen Ilves , with whom he reached the play-off final in the 1997/98 season and failed there at Helsingfors IFK . In the same season, Larsson was the top scorer of the league with 64 points in 57 games and was also Player of the Month in October 1997. He also scored most of the league with 42 assists and was also won over by fans and journalists for the league-internal All-Star- Game nominated.
In 1999 he left Tampere and accepted a lucrative offer from the Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League. The now 31-year-old was also able to convince in Germany and scored 74 times in 59 league games. With 51 assists, the Swede was the league's top template provider and was also named the best offensive player in the DEL together with Russian Sergej Vostrikow . A season later, it was the leaders of the Munich Barons by a commitment to Munich persuade and transferred him then in the Bavarian capital. Larsson signed a one-year contract and reached the play-off finals with the Barons in 2001. There he and his team failed at the Adler Mannheim in a best of five series with 1: 3 defeats. At the end of the season, his expiring contract was not extended and so he returned to his Swedish homeland for Södertälje SK. He stayed there until 2004 and then ended his active ice hockey career at the age of 36.
