Peter Liba
Peter Michael Liba , CM , OM (born May 10, 1940 in Winnipeg , † June 21, 2007 ) was a Canadian journalist and manager . From 1999 to 2004 he served as lieutenant governor of the province of Manitoba .
biography
Liba worked as a journalist from 1957; first for two small local newspapers, from 1960 for the Winnipeg Tribune . From 1968 to 1973 he worked as an administrative assistant for the party leadership of the Manitoba Liberal Party . In 1974 he was one of the co-founders of the CanWest media group . He was subsequently CEO of CKND Television in Manitoba and SaskWest Television in Saskatchewan . In 1993 he was promoted to Vice President of the group and in this role was responsible for business relations in Canada, Australia , New Zealand and Chile .
In addition to his professional activities, Liba has supported numerous charitable and cultural organizations. In 1984 he received the Order of Canada . Governor General Roméo LeBlanc swore him in on March 2, 1999 as Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. He held this representative office until June 30, 2004. Also in 1999, he was the first person to be awarded the newly created Order of Manitoba .
