Francis Lawrence Jobin

Francis Lawrence Jobin (born August 14, 1914 in Winnipeg , † August 25, 1995 there ) was a Canadian politician . From 1976 to 1981 he served as lieutenant governor of the province of Manitoba .

biography

Jobin grew up in Winnipeg and Regina . After studying at the University of Manitoba , he settled in Flin Flon in 1935 . There he was employed by the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) as a miner and surveyor. He later worked in the purchasing department of the local HBC branch and organized the city's first trade union .

In 1949 Jobin ran for the Manitoba Liberal Party in the election for the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and was successful in The Pas constituency. For ten years he was a member of the provincial parliament, and from 1956 to 1958 he was Minister of Industry and Commerce in the cabinet of Prime Minister Douglas Lloyd Campbell . Jobin was voted out of office in 1959, and two years later he ran for chairmanship without success. For the 1962 general election he stood in Churchill for the Liberal Party of Canada , again he was unsuccessful.

From 1966 to 1976 Jobin was a member of Flin Flon's City Council, the last three years of which as mayor. Governor General Jules Léger sworn him in on March 15, 1976 as Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. He held this representative office until October 23, 1981.
