Peter Littelmann is a German mathematician .

biography

Littelmann studied at the Universities of Hamburg , Basel and Brandeis University and received his doctorate in 1988 under Hanspeter Kraft at the University of Basel (contributions to the representation theory of semi-simple algebraic groups). As a post-doctoral student he was at the University of Rome La Sapienza and the University of Grenoble . He completed his habilitation at the University of Basel and was visiting professor at the University of Bern before becoming a professor at the University of Strasbourg and a member of the Institut universitaire de France . Afterwards he was professor at the University of Wuppertal and from 2005 at the University of Cologne .

He was visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley and visiting scholar at MSRI .

Littelmann deals with algebra , representation theory and algebraic combinatorics . He developed the combinatorial methods of Littelmann way model (English: Littelmann path model ) and used it for the proof of conjecture in the theory of standard monomial (English: standard monomial theory ) of CS Seshadri and calculating multiplicities in representations of semisimple Lie groups and algebras and symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras .

In 1994 he was a lecturer at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Zurich ( The path model for representations of symmetrizable Kac-Moody-Algebras ).
