Life
Force studied from 1963 to 1969 mathematics at the University of Basel and graduated there in 1967. In 1969 his doctorate he with the work on the structure of the differential ring of a field extension finitely generated . From 1970 to 1974 he worked at the University of Bonn ; In 1974 he completed his habilitation there and was junior professor at the University of Regensburg for the next two years . In 1975 he returned to Bonn, where he was initially visiting professor and one year later he was assistant professor until 1979. From 1979 to 1981 he was employed as a full professor at the University of Hamburg . From 1981 until his retirement in July 2014, he held this position at the University of Basel. Kraft was Harm Derksen's doctoral supervisor .
Hanspeter Kraft taught at the University of Basel and was head of the Mathematical Institute. In addition, Kraft is the President of the Euler Commission , a company that has existed since 1907 and which has made it its business to publish the complete works of Leonhard Euler . As part of this activity, Kraft played a key role in organizing the “Euler Year 2007”. Kraft was also editor-in-chief of Commentarii Mathematici Helvetici from 1990 to 2006 , the publication organ of the Swiss Mathematical Society .
