Peter James Loader (born October 25, 1929 in Wallington , Surrey , † March 15, 2011 in Perth , Western Australia ) was an English cricketer and referee.

For England he appeared in 13 test matches , in the English County Championship , in which he played for the Surrey County Cricket Club , he was one of the fastest bowlers of his time. He also played for the Beddington Cricket Club. His bouncer was feared , a particularly fast and dangerous ball for the batsman because it was high. However, this throw was suspected of being incorrectly executed, i.e. not with an outstretched arm, which is pejoratively referred to as chucking in English .

Due to the competition from the other English fast bowlers of his time, Frank Tyson , Fred Trueman and Brian Statham , Loader could not secure a regular place in the English team - on the Ashes Tour 1954/55 in Australia he did not play in a single test . But in 1957 he achieved the first hat trick of the post-war era in Headingley when he won 6 wickets for 36 runs against the West Indies . This was only the twelfth hat trick in test cricket and it took 38 years before an English bowler, Dominic Cork , succeeded in this feat again.

He had a great influence on Surrey's successful streak of seven County Championship titles in a row between 1952 and 1958. He made his debut for Surrey in 1951, he secured a regular place in July 1953, when he won a total of 34 wickets in three games in a row. Twice he scored 9 wickets in one innings for Surrey : 9 for 23 against Kent in 1953 and 9 for 17 against Warwickshire in 1958. In seven seasons he achieved 100 or more first-class wickets, the last time in 1962. Although he was not a good batsman, he scored 81 valuable runs in a game against Yorkshire in Headingley in 1955 , which helped Surrey to reach 268 runs from 119 for 8 wickets.

In 1963 he emigrated to Perth, Western Australia, and played a game for the Western Australia team in the 1963-64 season in what would be his last first-class game. He later became a referee and until 2007 led top grade cricket games for the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) .
