Peter Mende

Peter Mende (born November 30, 1934 in Breslau ; † July 26, 2016 in Bonn ) was a German diplomat .

Life

Peter Mende studied law in Cologne and Lausanne. In 1958 he passed the first state examination and in 1963 the second state examination. In 1964 he joined the Foreign Office and worked at the representations in London, Paris and Washington.

In 1987 he was accredited at the German Embassy in Washington, DC . The Kohl government had rejected the extradition of Mohammed Ali Hamadi , who the Reagan government suspected of being involved in the hijacking of TWA flight 847 in 1985 , with regard to the kidnapping of Rudolf Cordes (* 1934) . Nancy Reagan awarded Hannelore Kohl the United Service Organizations Prize . Mende had the honor of announcing this award.

From 1993 to 1996 Mende was ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Khartoum . In a geology seminar at Khartoum University , Mende reported that the government of Sudan had killed the students arrested the previous week. Mende was then summoned to the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was told that the government of Sudan did not do this.

In September 1995 Mende was at the airport in Khartoum when citizens of Sudan expelled from the Federal Republic of Germany landed.

From 1996 to 1999 Mende was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Amman . In July 1999 he signed a framework agreement on bilateral technical assistance with the Jordanian Minister of Planning, Rima Khalaf . The government of the Federal Republic supported the improvement of the Jordanian migration system with three million German marks and one million DM for research purposes.

After his retirement, Mende moderated lectures for the German-Arab Friendship Society .
