Peter Egboche Ogaba (born September 24, 1974 in Jos ; † August 5, 2016 ) was a Nigerian football player .

Career

Early start in the youth national teams (until 1991)

Ogaba started playing soccer at an early age. He lived first in Oturkpo , then in Makurdi and finally again in Oturkpo, where he graduated from school. During his school days he played the sport very often and often did so in the company of older players. In doing so, he revealed his talent, which enabled him to participate in the national sports festival of Nigeria as a member of the Benue state team .

In 1987, the then 12-year-old was appointed to the Nigerian selection for the U-16 World Cup in Canada. Although he was the youngest player in the tournament, he was used in all games and made it to the final with his team. Only there they were defeated after a 1-1 final score of the Soviet team on penalties. His appearance at international level enabled him to join the youth department of the BBL Hawks from Makurdi. From then on, the youngster, who had not been a club until then, worked even harder on his foundations.

The player, who is primarily used in defense and midfield, was only 14 years old when he traveled to Saudi Arabia for the 1989 World Junior Championship . He was not seeded in every game against players up to five years older, but took part in the final and suffered a 2-0 defeat against Portugal. Although he was never allowed to play in the senior national team despite his early start, he at least made the leap into the professional field in 1991 when he switched to the Belgian first division club Sporting Lokeren .

Time in Europe and Singapore (1991-2006)

Ogaba, who only celebrated his 17th birthday the year he moved to Belgium, was a permanent member of the professional squad in Lokeren and was soon given the chance to present himself in the team. Shortly after his arrival, he was on the pitch for a match in the Belgian Cup and suffered an injury from which he could never fully recover. Despite his suffering, he continued to play until the end and had to pause for eight months. In 1993 he was awarded to the Finnish club FC Oulu and wore their jersey for half a year.

In the winter break of 1993/94 he went to another new country when he was accepted into the squad of the German Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg . He made his debut in the league when he was on the field from the start on April 30, 1994 in a 3-1 away win against FC Schalke 04 . He entered the Bundesliga one more time before leaving Duisburg in the summer of the same year.

After leaving Duisburg, his way through Europe led him to smaller clubs from Spain and Portugal, before moving to the Icelandic club KS Fjallabyggðar in January 1998 . According to his own statements, he was paid his highest salary in the small country, as the club needed him because of his international experience and was supported by a wealthy company. In the summer of the same year he moved to Denmark, where he was under contract with Holstebro BK until 2000 . With his departure, his time in Europe ended, during which he had learned numerous other languages in addition to German.

The Nigerian ended his career in Singapore , Asia , until he suffered again in 2006 from the injury sustained in Belgium in 1991. On medical advice, he stopped playing football and immediately returned to his home country. There he built up various branches of business, including a football school.

Peter Ogaba died in the hospital on August 5, 2016 from a sudden illness.
