KS Fjallabyggðar is an Icelandic football club . The club from Fjallabyggð , whose predecessor club played in the Úrvalsdeild for several years , is currently in the second-rate 1. deild karla .

history

Leiftur

The club, founded in 1931, rose to the Úrvalsdeild in 1987, but could not hold the class. After a seventh place in 1989, the team had to relegate to the third division in 1990. There succeeded with eleven wins in 18 games of direct promotion and the team was able to establish itself in the second division in the front area. In 1994 they returned to the first division, where the team played until 2000. During this time, he came third in the league three times. In addition, the team moved into the cup final in 1998, which was lost to champions ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar 2-0, but they still managed to take part in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup . There the club failed in the qualifying round due to two defeats at RSC Anderlecht .

After the end of the second division season, the club put its football team together with the football club from Dalvík and they went on as Leiftur / Dalvík . Even with bundled forces, the success failed and in 2003 the team rose again to the third division. Two years later, the team also completed the season there on a relegation zone. Then the syndicate was dissolved and Leiftur joined forces with the second division relegated KS from Siglufjörður .

Knattspyrnufélag Siglufjarða played underclass for years. At the end of the 1990s, the team was able to establish itself in the third division. In 2000, he was promoted to the second division, which was followed by direct relegation. In 2004 the team returned to the second-class 1st deild , but missed relegation again. KS then merged with Leiftur.

KS / Leiftur

2007 occupied the merged team from KS / Leiftur , which had taken over the place in the third division from KS, as third in the table a promotion place and thus returned to the second division. There, the team missed relegation with only one win of the season as the bottom of the table.

KS Fjallabyggðar

In 2007 the name was changed to Knattspyrnufélag Fjallabyggðar (short: KS Fjallabyggðar or simply KF ).
