Peter Ortner (biologist)

Peter Ortner (* 1934 ) is a South Tyrolean biologist , environmentalist and home curator .

The from Sesto native Ortner studied at the University of Innsbruck zoology and botany and worked subsequently as a teacher and director at the High School in Bolzano . In addition to his professional career, he was intensely committed to nature and landscape protection , which he accompanied and promoted in South Tyrol through numerous journalistic articles in the local press, in radio and television broadcasts, through lectures and scientific publications. As a member of the working group for landscape protection, Ortner contributed significantly to the establishment of the seven nature parks . In 1973 he was awarded the Walther-of-the-Vogelweide-price for his services South Tyrolean Cultural Institute , in 2011 the longtime chairman of the South Tyrolean home care association became the decorations of Tyrol awarded.
